Hanafubuki is the young, multidisciplinary collective of illustrator Hanne Holvoet, actress Sari Veroustraete, choreographer/designer Samuel Baidoo and business director Marie Luyten.
They work on a project basis with changing artists from different disciplines. As a result, their oeuvre has a great diversity with an emphasis on the visual character. The physical form of their projects is very decisive for the manner of storytelling and for the content of the performance.
Hanafubuki starts from each member's perspective (illustration, drama and dance) and skill. Curiosity about each other's medium opens up individual boundaries and results each time in a different specific form of their work.
Their collaboration creates a common language and broadens their view of art. The constant testing and fine-tuning of their own individual plans in function of a greater whole has an important value and gives them confidence to be fascinating for a broad audience. Hanafubuki shares a studio space in Antwerp where they work together and separately. Space and experimentation are crucial. They get excited by the aesthetics of shapes or colour combinations, simple theatrical tricks that make objects appear, move or concealed, things they find on the street and coincidences. Apart from being artists, they also work and teach in the social sector which makes them stand with both feet in the world.
In 2023-2024 Hanafubuki reprises 2 productions that premiered in 2022-2023: Archipelago and Eiland (premiere februari 2023-Krokusfestival, Hasselt).
They also reprise Diorama and Hier praten de bomen met elkaar.
