Choreographer Ugo Dehaes is an intuitive maker. He cherishes each new, personal fascination, developing these into stories that he can share with an audience. In this way, he converts a self-made spark into something that is relatable for everyone, offering the audience a new way of looking at the world. In the past, his shows – sober and radical yet accessible – focused on the power of dance and dancers. In his recent work, Ugo questions society’s striving for efficiency and optimisation. He replaces performers and choreographers with robots, technology and artificial intelligence. In the background of this extreme position, Ugo’s love for the human body and the human being in general is still clearly identifiable.
In the 2023–2024 season, in addition to bringing back Simple Machines, Ugo Dehaes will premiere his new production LIMP (25 January, 2024 at c o r s o in Antwerp).
