Ika Schwander

// Ika Schwander is an artist of PARTIE //

Ika Schwander (Luxembourg, 1999) is a French-Dutch performer and director of performances, films and installations. Her work is characterised by a great love for creating surreal worlds where visual art, film, dance and text meet.

During and prior to her creation process, Ika remains in constant dialogue with the world around her. Her goal is to present an encounter that encompasses a friction both formal and substantive. She draws on sources that touch her personally, with a focus on sensitive issues such as chronic pain, femicide, sexual abuse and loss. The idea is to look for ways to connect the past with the present and mix fiction with non-fiction. She feels a strong need to make the intangible tangible. In a world where everything is explained, Ika wants to encourage a less definable kind of feeling.

Having previously studied fine art at Central Saint Martins in London, she graduated from the performance department of the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts in June 2023. During the latter course she completed apprenticeships with Jan Decorte and Sigrid Vinks at Kaaitheater (Jamais je n’oublierai la mort) and with Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe at DE SINGEL (Madrigals), among others. In summer 2023, she was present at Theater Aan Zee with her master’s thesis è vero è vero è vero, which featured in the young creator’s category.

è vero è vero è vero will be return in the 2024–2025 season.
