Michiel Vandevelde is a choreographer, dancer, curator and writer. In his various roles he asks himself the question of how we might disrupt dominant patterns and power dynamics. In his artistic work, Michiel finds the freedom to formulate socio-political questions that are difficult to tackle any other way. Questions relating to sexuality, intimacy, the significance of touch, power, democracy and – inevitably – death: these themes characterise his most recent work. The theatre offers a fantastic laboratory and art can grant us insight into what it means to be human.
As a choreographer, he works in the name of both his own non-profit organisation, vzw Disagree, and other organisations, such as fABULEUS, Platform-K, Pact Zollverein and Theater Neumarkt.
In the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 seasons, Michiel Vandevelde will reprise Le Sacre du Printemps and The Goldberg Variations (the latter together with Platform-K). The participatory project Infinite Dances welcomes participants to attend every last Monday of the month at sunset on the Grote Markt in Leuven (org. 30CC and the City of Leuven).
