Michiel Vandevelde

Michiel Vandevelde begon zijn danscarrière als jongere bij fABULEUS en studeerde daarna aan P.A.R.T.S. Hij is choreograaf, curator, programmator, schrijver en opiniemaker. Zijn politiek en artistiek activisme vormt een rode draad doorheen alles wat hij doet.

Michiel was artistiek leider van Bâtard, een festival dat jonge, internationale kunstenaars een platform geeft in Brussel, en maakte deel uit van het artistieke team van Extra City Kunsthal in Antwerpen. Tussen 2017 en 2021 was hij artist-in-residence in het Brusselse Kaaitheater. Sinds vorig seizoen werkt hij als programmator podiumkunsten en performing arts bij DE SINGEL (Antwerpen) en is hij creatieve ambassadeur van de stad Leuven.

Van jongs af aan is hij geïnteresseerd in het creëren en deel uitmaken van een collectieve dynamiek. Hij blijft nu ook zoeken naar sociale, economische en culturele alternatieven voor dominante logica’s in onze huidige maatschappij. Als choreograaf werkt hij afwisselend vanuit zijn eigen vzw Disagree of onder de vleugels van organisaties als fABULEUS, Platform-K, PACT Zollverein, …

In seizoen 2022-2023 herneemt Michiel Vandevelde Dances of Death en samen met Platform-K The Goldberg Variations.
